FAQS

WHAT IS CHEMICAL PEEL?

A chemical peel is a skin treatment; which is used to improve and smooth out the surface of the facial skin. A chemical solution is used to remove top layers of skin, which allows the dead surface skin to peel off. The peeling process leads to new skin growth – usually smoother, healthier and less wrinkled compared to the old skin. Chemical peels should only be performed by aesthetic professionals, such as aesthetic doctors, nurses and beauty therapists.

WHAT TYPE OF PEEL IS USED?

At K Aesthetics we use Dermaceutic medical grade class 2a superficial milk peel. Superficial peels are a good option for many people as they have a gentler effect, require no pain relief, and can be used in more skin types, including darker skin tones, with little or no recovery time.

HOW DO PEELS WORK?

The peel speeds up your natural skin’s healing process by stimulating the production of collagen and improving elastin fibres- these are what give skin it’s youthful form and shape. It also revitalizes sensitive skin and helps improve the appearance of irritated or inflamed skin.

ARE SKIN PEELS SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE?

Almost everyone can benefit from a skin peel – they can leave skin looking significantly younger and healthier alongside a series of more specific treatment results.

However, chemical skin peels are only suitable for those over 18.  We cannot treat women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those with an aspirin or phenol allergy or those who have used Accutan within the last 3 months.

Chemical peels are not suitable for people with active cold sores, warts, or open wounds, those undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy, anyone who has recently had cryo surgery or liquid nitrogen treatments or people with a weakened immune system.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY SKIN PEEL TREATMENT?

Chemical peels can form part of a longer facial treatment, but if you are coming in just for the peel, it will be a much quicker experience.

Our clinician will thoroughly cleanse your face before applying the skin peel, which will be left on the skin to work.  Once it’s fully soaked in, we’ll wash the peel away and explain any aftercare to you.

Your clinician may recommend you book for another chemical skin peel once the healing period is complete.

WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE FROM A CHEMICAL PEEL?

All chemical peels may leave skin red, slightly sore and peeling in the hours and days after treatment.  This is completely normal and part of the healing and renewing process.
